Art 2019

22/10/19

So after going back to my plan and looking through it. I've come up with, what I think as a better Idea for all three of my art boards.

All of the panels will have a New Zealand theme to show New Zealand! The first panel will be of New Zealand Landscapes (Plants). The second would be Animals, Sheep, Native birds etc. The last panel would be New Zealand people and culture.

Throughout the panel I would like to include shapes through the center of each panel that would go with the theme New Zealand and with each panel. For example, Maori patterns.

Friday 27th of September

Photos i'm going to edit now....a-lot more portrait instead of landscapes that would give more variety on my art board. Lots of water (Ocean) as-well!!

One photo I took in Queenstown.

I would like to, over the holiday, get more photographs of the Mountains and Hills to get a higher up perspective and also a very low, to the ground, perspective as-well. As I already feel i have everything in-between I may need. I already have around 30 pictures. If I could come to the 50 picture mark to put on my board, that would be amazing!
...........................................................................

I want to tell the story of New Zealand landscapes through horizon lines in photography; where the horizon lines on each picture link to each other. From the tallest point to the lowest and everything in between, the seasons, natural disasters, life in New Zealand through my Artwork.

28/08/2019
What I would also like to try and do is to get the start of the art folio in the Mountains then as we go down the chain off photos as the days pass the seasons will change and the photos will change through seasons but also through height. The pictures will start from the Mountains and the will end in the ocean with a sunset, just as the 'day' or start of the art board will start with a sunrise over the mountains. This will hopefully not only look good but show the true reality of what New Zealand is. I would like to have enough photos to start editing by the end of term 3.

- I would like to think this chain of photographs like a huge panorama. To do this I may need to get a higher up perspective of the landscapes etc.

02/08/2019 - Here are some pictures that I have taken over the course of the year that i'm going to be editing for my art board next year. They have been taken over the last couple of months outside of school; mostly when I went on holiday to Queenstown in July. I tried to match them together by joining their horizon lines from each picture together to make them seem connected in way that seems everything is linked together and is interconnected; the Earth and New Zealand.

So I plan to find enough photos to make a long enough chain to figure out what my final plan is and what I'm going to do editing wise and what other photos I may need.

30/07/2019

Mountains to plains to ocean.

  • Blurriness, foggy lens look to add to the uncertainty of what New Zealand is at the start of the art board; to high sharpness/clarity that signifies the clarity and purity of New Zealand.
  • Colours/tones change with pictures, which could signify the seasons that change through the chain of connected pictures and what New Zealand looks like year round.
  • Sunrise/sunsets at the start and end of the art board like years have passed through these photos, but when you look at them it looks as though inly one day has gone by.

    Other ideas:
  • Natural grain? - Raw and Pure, rather than being heavily edited?! - option?
  • A lot going on and then becoming more minimalistic.

So I would link the horizon lines of these pictures together.

Monday 10th of June

Here are some more that I have edited to be blurry for my artboard.

Friday 31st of May

Touched base with my Art History for a couple of lessons, just about finished on my Sally Mann art history piece and have started on my second art history person, Walker Evans and the photograph 'Child in backyard' from 1932. Here's some screenshots screenshot!

Just started :)

Thursday - 16/05/19

It's been a while since it showed you what I've been up to for my art board. Ive been planning for a different Why for my Art board; landscapes in New Zealand using their horizon lines to connect to each other and to New Zealand itself. Here are some pictures I've been playing around with for my art board.

Friday - 15/3

The last two weeks I've started planning my first panel for my art-board. All there panels, here are some photos of the planning I did in the last couple of lessons;

I wanted to do something to do with time, where the photographs I take will be throughout the 19th, 20th and 21st century using some of the techniques they used to document a teenagers life and through young woman and their person lives and how it would be portrayed in different centuries.

So now all I have to figure out is how to get the effect of an 1800 style photograph using either Lightroom or photoshop to get the texture just right to make it look perfect. (Daguerreotype )

Friday - 22/2

Art history
Sally Mann is a Daguerreotype photographer and has won many awards for her work. She is most known from her large-format, black and white, photographs of her children and landscapes.

The Photograph that I'm going to be studying for art history. The photograph is called 'The Damaged Child'. The photograph is of a child, Sallys daughter Jessie in 1984. It shows her with a damaged face and fuffy eye looking directly at the camera.

The photograph was apart of the begun series in 1984.

Friday - 8/2

So the last couple of days Ive been looking into different photography types;

Cinematography - Cinematography is basically the art of photography and camera work while making films, documentaries, commercials, etc.

Photograms -  A photogram is technically a photographic print made by laying objects onto photographic paper and exposing it to light, in a dark room, to make a photograph without a camera.

Daguerreotype -  A Daguerreotype is a unique image on a silvered copper plate that was the first successful photographic process during the 1840s to 1860s. The images were usually of people that could afford to be photographed and of landscapes/architecture.

Thursday - 7/2

This year I am doing Year 13 Photography. Here is my brainstorm of what I'm thinking of doing; my WHY!

At this point in time, I am leaning more towards a documentary style. For example 'a day in the life'.

Some of them are; to document people in Christchurch city (strangers), To follow one person around for a day, to take photos that look like were taken decades ago, and more.

I have also found some ARTEST MODELS that would like to use to incorporate in my work and possibly for my art history internal.

Art - 2018

21/02/2018 - Wednesday

This week I have chosen my art history piece. It is from one of my three artists, his name is Jim Dine.
Image result for jewish heart jim dine
The piece I am studying is called the Jewish heart, 1982.

Here is a picture:

We are to do two artists, I have only chosen one so far. But I was thinking of doing another piece from one of my other three names.

Yesterday we started drawing/ planning our folio. We had to think about the series and sequences in out work too.

For my theme Uneqiness and personality, celebration, my plan ending up turning out like this:

9/8/18 - Monday

Three names:

Christine Webster:

Born in Pukekohe Auckland 1958.
Her photography is based on fiction. It is unsettling with its probing into society’s accepted boundaries(which look scary in a way).
Her interest lies in working with others to explore the human psyche – people’s different personae, fantasy, identity, gender stereotypes and sexuality.

Ans Westra:

Ans was born in the Netherlands in Leiden in 1936 28th of April. She left the Netherlands for New Zealand in 1957. She is a self-taught New Zealand photographer with an interest in Maori. Her art was amplified in 1964 by one of her pieces called Washday at the par (book). Here is a picture:

12/8/18

Jim Dine:

He was born June 16, 1935 in cincinnati Ohio.
He is a pop artist, and he is sometimes considered part of the Neo-Dada movement( a movement with audio, visual and literary manifestations that had similarities in method or intent with earlier Dada artwork).

I have also noticed he likes hearts.

7/2/18 - Wednesday

Brainstorm

Very excited to get started with art this year. I will be doing NCEA this year so it is going to be challenging but fun and exciting. I hope this year I will complete everything to the best I can with hopefully a excellence.

To start the year we did a brain storm about trying to find our Why. Here is mine:

Looking forward to art, can't wait to start :)

Project Base Learning

H.O.P.E.

At Hornby high school for the last 4 weeks of school (term 4), we have been asked to do something for the community that will have a positive impact. Our group; Fleur, Brooke and myself, had decided we were going to do something for the homeless. I would like to help the homeless because they are human and they deserve the same as any human being does. When our group was formed we had to come up with a name; H.O.P.E. - "Help Other People Enjoy" life.

Since we didn't know much about the topic we are going to be learning about for the next couple of weeks we did some research. Here are some links that has helped us so far:

When we had done enough research we had to answer the following questions:

Who was affected? - Many people of all ages had lost their homes to the Christchurch earthquakes and became homeless. And another reason is that people have lost their jobs and don't have money to pay for rent.

What are the issues? - The homeless are struggling to find shelter, currently, they are using cardboard boxes and sleeping on the streets. Sitting on the streets all day holding sign hoping for money for their dinner.

When did it start and how has it progressed? - people lose their jobs and not being able to pay rent for their house making them homeless. Christchurch earthquake in 2012 making thousands homeless because their houses were destroyed making a huge impact on the homeless.

Where is this happening? - Most homeless people are found in cities where there are more chances of getting money. Some homeless can be supported by communities and stay around there.
Homeless can also be found in most big cities.

Why is this happening? - There are fewer jobs and people are getting fired and can no longer pay for a house because the rent of their house is really expensive or because their house was taken from them from natural disasters or because landlords selling land etc.

How are we going to solve this or make a positive impact on homeless people?

After discussing this our group came up with an idea to make a little gift bag for the homeless, that may or may not be Christmas themed, that will have food, water and other small affordable things that can make a small impact for them. We feel this was a good idea because not many homeless people have a real Christmas and don't get as much as others do during Christmas that including food and presents.

I thought that this was a good idea because everyone deserves to be happy on Christmas and should be surrounded by family and friends.

First action plan:

We have completed the fist check point. We had to email a couple of companies only three of them replying. Kamart said that we have to weight them a letter. But we don't have time to do that. Next spotlight. We may have to go see them in the weekend to go and  collect the bags. Lastly we rang gorgeous foods and they are are possible able to donate some stuff to us as well.

I had also talked to my uncle to see if he was able to give is some spare clothes.

Thinking ahead of time we are going to go out of school in PBL on the Friday to go give our donations to city mission. So for that we also need to fill in a permission slip to be able to go out of school. This will most likely be at the end of the day.

Steps needed to achieve the goal.
What will help us achieve this goal?(Enablers)
Possible barriers and how they could be overcome.
Who is responsible for this step?
Date this step will be achieved by.
Contact city mission via email and ask if we would be able to be a volunteer for the day and/or sponsor us for plan B.
If we are able to help then we will ask mr rodgers. (ask him first)
We will also try and contact queen Anne watties and lincraft
Emailing them both during school hours

People are at school that we need to talk to and c/ mission email us

Have permission for going out of school
City mission saying no to both things - we could overcome this by doing fundraising by ourselves.

Not allowed to go out of school- we can overcome this by doing it in our own time, eg weekend.

What will help us achieve this goal?(Enablers)
Possible barriers and how they could be overcome.
Who is responsible for this step?
Date this step will be achieved by.
Make people more aware of homeless people are why they are homeless by making posters and blog etc. ( if all other plans don't work out)
And possible share it at assembly.

Ask if we can present
There is good reliable information we can use.

Have permission to show at assembly.

having resources and time in class that we can use for the posters and to make our blog.
Not allowed to present in assembly - we can overcome this by putting up more posters.

Not allowed to have posters - we could share our blog with everyone instead.

Persuasive writing essay

 Zoe

Better food, better students, better grades. The school’s tuck shop should have more healthy food options. This will give the tuck shop more customers, students will have more energy, and it's more practical to prepare.
If the school's inferior tuck shop were to add more healthy options to the menu more students will come and buy the food. For example, more people would rather eat healthy than a damaging, unhealthy school lunch. Foodinsite.org says that 6 to 10 students put effort into eating healthy, at home and at school. The school's tuck shop only has so much good quality food. If we were to add healthy foods to the menu it won't only give the tuck shop more variety of food but will attract more minority of people.

If the tuck shop added healthier options it won't only add customers, but it will give students energy for classes. For example, eating healthy can make you sleep better, therefore making you less tired and ready for class with enthusiastic energy. Due.com says that eating healthy will make your energy last longer and will prevent sick days. This will lead to more work being done in class, students focusing on their work and not disturbing others during classes. More energy and less sick days, who doesn't want that?

Not only will more customers come and students will have more energy, but if the tuck shop would have more healthy food options it would be a lot faster to prepare exceptional, healthy food. For example, when you look up healthy meals it comes with many quick and easy ready meal ideas. If you go to jamieoliver.com he has quick healthy meals that you can use. Whether it be fish or a fresh garden salad. QSR says that 61% of people say that they like a variety of healthy food at cafes and fast food restaurants. If there were to be more healthy options on the menu you will have a variety of food; this will give students healthy and unhealthy food choices.

There are many positives to having healthy food choices at our tuckshop but there is one main negative about it; the cost of the ingredients. Ingredients like carrots, apples, berries, bananas, whole grain bread and smoothies can be very high-priced, especially when not in season or out of stock. Although there are some pricey negatives to it, the positives definitely outweigh the negatives about making out tuck shop healthier.

The school's tuck shop should have more healthy food options. This will give the tuck shop more customers, students more energy, and it's more practical and quicker to make. A better way of eating is a better way of living.
